Do you know what today is, it’s my Blog-a-versary! It’s been exactly one year since I’ve started my blog, and I’ve learned quite a bit about blogging. Now I’m not saying I’ve figured out everything to have a successful blog, but I have found some helpful tips along the way. From all that I’ve read about having a successful blog, getting blog traffic, and sponsored post; I’ve complied a few takeaways for anyone out there just starting out.
To read about how my love of makeup began check out my very first post here.
Finding Your Niche
For me finding my niche was sort of easy, but then again I had to figure out what is was I wanted to say to my readers. Of course there are a lot of people who wants to know how to do their makeup, so that’s one thing for sure I wanted to talk about. Beauty alone is a very big category but there a lot of subsections it can be broken down into. I choose makeup, skincare and hair. With these three categories alone there are a ton of topics I could talk about on my blog.
Blog Posts
With there being a ton of topics to choose from as a beauty blogger, it can become very overwhelming. Not only do you want to post about the latest tips in applying concealer or about a new foundation, but you want to have good quality posts. At the beginning I didn’t have much of a blog outline of what I wanted to post. It would take me weeks to come up with posts ideas and even longer to publish. As I mentioned before, I wanted quality posts that would keep people interested and wanting to visit my blog more. I will say this year I’m more organized and able to posts more.
Monetizing your Blog
Last but not least monetizing your blog through sponsored posts, collaborations and from advertisements. I dabbled in advertisements last year through Google Adsense, but I found it took away from my blog. Only because with all those ads it started to takeaway from my blogs overall look. Don’t get me wrong I loved having the ads but I didn’t like the way my blog started to look. Plus I didn’t make much from the ads and I think it’s because the ads that were shown were sort of random and not focused on what my blog was about. I may add the ads back again one day but I want to look into other ways to monetize my blog.
I would say I learned quite a bit about blogging over the past year and I’m still learning. It never dawned on me how much went into blogging besides posting and adding photos. Over the past year I’ve read a lot of different posts on about blogging, and it’s inspired me to develop some sort of ebook with helpful tips that are straight to the point. Let me know down in the comments, if it’s something you all would be interested in. Also check some of my recent posts here and here.
